Subic Park Hotel Review, Subic Bay

Subic Park Hotel Review

Being work-from-home parents, we stay in our cot about 98% of the time, so one lazy Sunday of October, we checked in at Subic Park Hotel with our 6-month old baby Via for a change. This is the second time we’ve checked in at a hotel in Subic Bay so we pretty much have a comparison. I hope this Subic Park Hotel Review can be helpful to those who are thinking about staying in Subic Bay anytime soon.

It was a gloomy Sunday. I was a bit disappointed by the weather because I was looking forward to enjoy the pool as soon as we check in since baby girl would just be brought to the hotel by my parents. It was drizzling when arrived at Subic Park Hotel around 3:00 P.M.

We booked a standard queen room for $48.15 (about PhP2,166 at $1=PhP45 exchange rate) through Agoda, around PhP100 lower when you book directly at their website.

Rate Inclusions

The rate included 2 complimentary bottled water, WiFi access inside the room (which was really fast, I must mention considering that we connected 1 laptop and 2 mobile phones), free use of swimming pool, and complimentary dinner for 2 instead of complimentary breakfast.

What’s not included:

X toothbrush

X toothpaste

X separate towels for pool use

I don’t quite get it why they haven’t included these for all room types (Deluxe, Oceanfront, and Family rooms have them according to the receptionist) when they said that we can request for it. It’s a bit of a hassle, don’t you think especially if you haven’t brought your own toothbrush and toothpaste because you expect these to be found in the comfort room. Good thing Mini Stop is just nearby so we just bought ‘em.

Don’t worry, soap and shampoo were included.

Standard Queen Room Features

The room measures 28 sq. m. according to the data supplied in Agoda booking. Yes, it’s quite small, but it’s acceptable for a couple and a young kid. It has no view by the way.

What you can find inside the room:

√ a flat screen TV with cable

√ a closet with a few hangers

√ a personal refrigerator (not a mini bar ‘coz it contains nothing, you fill it up)

√ a hot and cold shower (which, unfortunately, was not working)

√ a small furniture that works as extra seat for two with a shoe rack below

√ coffee table for 2

√ an A/C unit

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is one of the things I looked forward enjoying so I asked hubby to take a dip with me even if it was drizzling. Because the weather brought winds with it, the tree shed most of its buds on the pool water, making it appear quite unpleasant to swim at. The floor around the pool area also was a bit slippery so we had to take extra precautions. On good weather though, I’ve witnessed the guests enjoying the pool a lot especially at dusk (yes, the walkers, joggers, and passers-by at the Boardwalk area all have a glimpse of the hotel’s pool since it is an open space).

The pool has two parts: the one for kids is at 2 ft. and the other for adults is at 4 ft. so you will not worry about drowning (don’t expect separate pools ‘coz they just elevated the other side of the pool’s floor to accommodate the kids).

Food

The complimentary dinner does not come in buffet although you will feel full and satisfied after eating your choice of plated meal. They offer 3 choices: (1) pork kebabs with buttered vegetables and plain rice, (2) fried chicken in mushroom gravy sauce with buttered vegetables and plain rice, and (3) creamy corned tuna pasta with garlic bread. Each of the choices does not come with drinks aside from the service water so you can order something you like for a charge.

I chose meal #1 and hubby had meal #2. I ordered coffee and he had shake for drinks.

What I love about their complimentary dinner is that they cook them as you order, so it arrives hot and fresh from the stove.

The serving is alright and we both felt full afterwards. My meal had 2 kebab sticks and his had 5 pieces of chicken wings, both enough for sharing. The complimentary dinner was tasty; we both loved it.

Staff

Even if the hotel has a few shortcomings, you won’t mind them at all because of their really accommodating and welcoming staff. Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant to the housekeeping all greeted us with a smile and with courtesy.

Our Staycation In A Nutshell

Subic Park Hotel is one of the most affordable hotels you can find along the Moonbay Marina strip. I must say that it’s worthy of its price. Our stay was quite not fulfilling because of the bad weather and the fact that hubby took his work with him. Nonetheless, we will come back soon to try their group offer for PhP998 that comes with a group meal for 5 and free use of swimming pool.
